MOTO DROID for Verizon specs surface on Motorola site

News by Brian James Kirk on Friday October 23, 2009.

Specifications for Verizon's Android-powered Motorola DROID have surfaced before the device has been officially announced, after Motorola published a page for the new smartphone ahead of schedule yesterday. Though the information is unconfirmed, the specs are likely final.

Motorola's DROID is powered by Android 2.0, the newest version of Google's mobile operating system. It features a large 3.7-inch WVGA (480 x 854 pixels) touchscreen display and includes a full-QWERTY sliding keyboard.

A 5.0 megapixel autofocus camera with dual-LED flash should capture high resolution photos and good quality video. The smartphone has 3G and WiFi connectivity, which should quickly load content to display in the DROID's web browser. The browser apparently supports HTML5 with Flash 10 support coming in 2010, the teaser site said.

The phone also includes a 1400mAh battery with 6 hours of estimated talk time, Bluetooth v2.1 for hands-free headsets, and a 3.5mm audio jack. A 16GB microSD card is also included with the device.

Pricing and availability were not published on the leaked teaser site, but an official announcement for the Motorola DROID is expected on October 28. [via BoyGeniusReport]
