Verizon launches website for Motorola DROID Android 2.0 smartphone

News by Michael Oryl on Sunday October 18, 2009.

Verizon has put up a website that hypes the upcoming release of the Motorola DROID, Motorola's second Android-powered smartphone, and likely the first on the market to feature the Android 2.0 OS, which is often referred to as 'eclair', its code name. The Motorola DROID is thought to be the "Sholes" device that has been floating around on the internet for some time.

The website takes a number of swipes at Apple's iPhone, with statements like "iDon't run simultaneous apps", referring to the iPhone's general lack of application multitasking. The site also mentions a number of features of the upcoming device, like a 5.0 megapixel camera, a hardware keyboard, and a "high-res" display.<>

Interested customers can sign up at the site to be notified when the device launches. [via Android Authority]

Update:On Sunday October 18, Verizon started running ads for the Motorola DROID on national TV. The TV spots are basically the same as the presentation given by the website, except that they indicate that the device will be "coming in November."
