Walmart launches its own Straight Talk prepaid phone service
News by Jake Humphrey on Thursday October 15, 2009.
On Wednesday Walmart announced, through a partnership with TracFone, that it will begin offering a contract free cell phone service of its own called Straight Talk.
Beginning on Sunday, October 18, Walmart shoppers will be able to walk into over 3,200 Walmart stores and purchase one of two prepaid monthly plans.
The $30 Straight Talk "All You Need" plan gives users 1,000 voice minutes, 1,000 text messages, and 30MB of data for surfing the Web. The plan is active for 30 days and also comes with unlimited 411 calls.
The more expensive $45 prepaid package includes unlimited calls, unlimited texts, and unlimited Web access.
Walmart will offer a handful of phones that take advantage of its Straight Talk plans, including the LG 220 ($39.98), the LG Slider 290 ($79.98), and the Samsung 451 ($99.88) which has a full QWERTY keyboard.
Customers can purchase devices and sign up for plans in stores or online by visiting Walmart.com, or StraightTalk.com

I bought a Straight Talk phone and it's really worth it, I got the unlimited everything; the reception is better than my old phone because it runs on Verizon's network.

Straight Talks packages are really fantastic. Unlimited calls, text and web is well worth the $45.
Now they are even more accessable at Walmarts and I have never had such good reception as they work on the Verisons network.

I was very happy at first, the phone is nice and the quality of the cell service is good. Once I spoke to customer service I was less than amused. WARNING: If you purchased a card for service, then sign up for Auto Refill, you best do it at the end of your thirty day, otherwise they charge you double. I understand the idea of the card and refills, but when a service says "Auto Renewal" you think as in when this ends it will renew. No so and the website doesn't say that anywhere. Outsourced Customer service basically said "To Bad, so sad" and I spoke to a supervisor as well. Not a good way to start. For this alone, I would say no.

I switched to StraightTalk a few months ago and I have never been so impressed. Its just $45 for unlimited calls and texts! Talk about a great deal. I get great coverage as well since it's on the Verizon network. Walmart is brilliant for taking this prepaid plan nationwide!

Count me in as another satisfied ST customer. Unlimited talking and texting for $45, it's definitely the best deal all around. I made the switch a couple of months ago and wish I knew about it sooner!

Straight talk is absolutely amazing and great savings! I got the Samsung Finesse phone and its basically the exact same thing as the Iphone except you aren't using At&T. I pay 45 dollars a month! THATS IT! and seriously its UNLIMITED talking, data, and texting. You can't get a better deal anywhere. Straight Talk is just wonderful and its on the Verizon Network so the coverage you get is incredible. I could be in them mountains and still have a strong signal.

I never thought Walmart would be the answer to my cell phone contract issues, but Straight Talk was a great choice. The $45 unlimited plan is saving me $50 a month and with unlimited texting, calling, and data I dont worry about overage fees. I really was surprised at the variety of phones and how inexpensive they are - I was finally able to afford a Smart Phone without incurring another year on a contract. Straight Talk being on the Verizon network is just the best part of all since I don't drop my calls and my coverage area is huge. Straight Talk is a great money saving choice and I tell friends and family about the deals all the time. Who needs a contract anymore?
