On Wednesday Walmart announced, through a partnership with TracFone, that it will begin offering a contract free cell phone service of its own called Straight Talk.

Beginning on Sunday, October 18, Walmart shoppers will be able to walk into over 3,200 Walmart stores and purchase one of two prepaid monthly plans.

The $30 Straight Talk "All You Need" plan gives users 1,000 voice minutes, 1,000 text messages, and 30MB of data for surfing the Web. The plan is active for 30 days and also comes with unlimited 411 calls.

The more expensive $45 prepaid package includes unlimited calls, unlimited texts, and unlimited Web access.

Walmart will offer a handful of phones that take advantage of its Straight Talk plans, including the LG 220 ($39.98), the LG Slider 290 ($79.98), and the Samsung 451 ($99.88) which has a full QWERTY keyboard.

Customers can purchase devices and sign up for plans in stores or online by visiting Walmart.com, or StraightTalk.com

I have a banging technology addition that will make Walmarts mobile offering go through the roof!!!

Greta @ 1:33:32PM EDT on Tuesday October 27, 2009

I bought a Straight Talk phone and it's really worth it, I got the unlimited everything; the reception is better than my old phone because it runs on Verizon's network.

Zara @ 10:24:36PM EDT on Thursday October 29, 2009

I just bought a StraightTalk cell phone recently and so far, it's been great. Enjoying the low monthly pymt and so far, not a single dropped call. Great deal!

Johnny @ 11:19:41PM EDT on Thursday October 29, 2009

The number of people who shop at walmart + straight talk being the best deal in prepaid (45 for unlimited) + running on the verizon network = genius

larry @ 12:56:27AM EDT on Friday October 30, 2009

I couldn't agree with you more greta, i just switched to straight talk and the reception is amazing. I am saving so much money right now straight talk is the best.

mandee @ 11:02:58PM EST on Tuesday November 10, 2009

this is the one to beat. i work in the wireless dept at walmart and we got like 100 of the phones and sold them in a week. very good sales!

Tom @ 5:59:07AM EST on Thursday November 12, 2009

Straight Talks packages are really fantastic. Unlimited calls, text and web is well worth the $45.
Now they are even more accessable at Walmarts and I have never had such good reception as they work on the Verisons network.

Tommix3 @ 5:33:24PM EST on Tuesday November 24, 2009

I was very happy at first, the phone is nice and the quality of the cell service is good. Once I spoke to customer service I was less than amused. WARNING: If you purchased a card for service, then sign up for Auto Refill, you best do it at the end of your thirty day, otherwise they charge you double. I understand the idea of the card and refills, but when a service says "Auto Renewal" you think as in when this ends it will renew. No so and the website doesn't say that anywhere. Outsourced Customer service basically said "To Bad, so sad" and I spoke to a supervisor as well. Not a good way to start. For this alone, I would say no.

Rachele @ 11:45:48PM EST on Sunday December 13, 2009

I switched to StraightTalk a few months ago and I have never been so impressed. Its just $45 for unlimited calls and texts! Talk about a great deal. I get great coverage as well since it's on the Verizon network. Walmart is brilliant for taking this prepaid plan nationwide!

Mady @ 11:28:06PM EST on Tuesday December 29, 2009

Count me in as another satisfied ST customer. Unlimited talking and texting for $45, it's definitely the best deal all around. I made the switch a couple of months ago and wish I knew about it sooner!

CindyH @ 2:34:23PM EST on Tuesday January 26, 2010

Straight talk is absolutely amazing and great savings! I got the Samsung Finesse phone and its basically the exact same thing as the Iphone except you aren't using At&T. I pay 45 dollars a month! THATS IT! and seriously its UNLIMITED talking, data, and texting. You can't get a better deal anywhere. Straight Talk is just wonderful and its on the Verizon Network so the coverage you get is incredible. I could be in them mountains and still have a strong signal.

Kimberly @ 12:27:01AM EST on Sunday January 31, 2010

I never thought Walmart would be the answer to my cell phone contract issues, but Straight Talk was a great choice. The $45 unlimited plan is saving me $50 a month and with unlimited texting, calling, and data I dont worry about overage fees. I really was surprised at the variety of phones and how inexpensive they are - I was finally able to afford a Smart Phone without incurring another year on a contract. Straight Talk being on the Verizon network is just the best part of all since I don't drop my calls and my coverage area is huge. Straight Talk is a great money saving choice and I tell friends and family about the deals all the time. Who needs a contract anymore?

carol @ 9:13:30PM EDT on Monday March 22, 2010

nothing is said about whether this plan has a sim card for it or not. it would help to know that as if a person could not afford the prepaid phone they offer right now, they could at least use one of their own cell phones instead. can someone please tell me if they come with a sim card? sounds like a wonderful plan and I plan on getting one the first of the month , better than the prepaid Ihad before.

JMJ @ 8:15:14PM EDT on Thursday April 1, 2010

They have a partnership through TracFone. What makes this phone different than a TracFone, which I already have and don't always have enough bars to get out from where I live?

angela @ 9:32:25AM EDT on Saturday April 10, 2010

i have your stright talk service i do have trouble finding reloadcards and you need a plan for older people like 1000 mins for 15.oo or 2000mins for 30.00 with no tex.

K. Ross @ 12:25:26PM EDT on Saturday May 1, 2010

I have been with Straight Talk for about 9 months. I love the 30.00 per month price with 1000 texts, 1000 minutes and plenty of data time. The only issue I have is every incoming call from cell phone drops after around 30 seconds. I've called customer service and all I get is that "were working on it". If it wasn't for the incredible deal I would have dropped them months ago. I am currently looking into a new plan.

unhappy straight talk customer @ 9:23:54PM EDT on Wednesday May 5, 2010

Straight Talk Customer Service Sucks!
2 (1 hour) waits during technical difficulties, then called on another day with a 30 minute wait just to get thru to customer service. Due to technical difficulties, they gave my wife's $30 card (for her phone) to someone else and said they wouldn't fix it. They suck. Don't use their service.

j @ 9:16:55AM EDT on Friday May 14, 2010

rogerellis1 @ 2:23:02PM EDT on Saturday July 24, 2010

i have ann old unused blackberry storm, will it work on strauight talk system?

java @ 9:33:24AM EDT on Wednesday August 4, 2010

to be honest i feel like i am stuck with my phone, but to say i am happy with not really, last month i could only afford their 30 dollar card, since i am living off ssdi my funding is limited. They dont role over their points, so i lost most of the amount i still had on the card i bought mid-month mind you, i feel it was a waste of money, because at the start of this month i had to buy a new card, they could wait till the time runs out, or even gets close to when i bought my last card, i lost over 13 hours of time

faye wright @ 8:56:56PM EDT on Wednesday August 25, 2010

i am trying to add more minutes to a straight talk cell and am ahving a hard time finding the right site

ralph @ 4:14:40PM EDT on Wednesday September 1, 2010

BAD BAD SYSTEM. Phone works very well, but the billing, WOW for the past 3 mo. charged 2, 3 or 4 times. My bank is cutting off my card.for all the work they have to do each mo. I will have to go to WM and buy a minute card each mo. Sign up and yo will see all the time you have to spend TRYING to solve a problem. GOOD LUCK

grandma-Alma,AR @ 11:44:27AM EDT on Sunday September 19, 2010

I have been considering this phone system, but after reading all the complaints about the customer service and problems with billing, I'm sticking with my old company.

Julia @ 5:06:08AM EDT on Friday October 29, 2010

Straight Talk has saved me so much money! I use the $45 plan which gives me unlimited talk, text and data with no hidden costs. You just pay for the phone up front and then its unlimited everything for a set amount of money every month. Great deal and great service that i would recommend to anyone!

gracemills @ 3:50:22PM EST on Wednesday January 5, 2011

Been doing some research about the different prepaid companies, and have discovered that not everyone will be happy with what they get. The good news is that since you don't have a contract, you won't have to pay any cancellation fees, just don't buy new airtime. What I've found with Straight Talk prepaid is they do have a decent selection of phones and two plans that are affordable and will take care of most users usage needs. I also think it all depends on where you live as to what coverage you will get. It's time to give it a try!

Dan @ 5:03:50AM EST on Monday January 17, 2011

Don't do it
This system is not done well. Costomer service can't seem to do anything except keep you on the line forever and they are hard to understand(not very good english)It seems like they haven't had much training. I have been trying to port 2 numbers for a week now and what I have is 4 phones that dont work. My 2 old ones and the 2 new ones.My phone numbers seem to have vanished.

Elena @ 4:28:33PM EST on Saturday January 29, 2011

I think a lot of companies have their faults. I understand that StraightTalk may not have the best Customer Service but i have to say they have the best coverage, call quality (because it runs on verizon network) yet it is the most affordable service. You won't find a better deal. In the end, isn't that what's most important .. call quality and price? It's worked out great for me, i'm very happpy pwith my Nokia E71 smartphone, paying only 45 dollars a month ( unlimited everything) and great coverage.

charlene king @ 12:04:43PM EST on Friday February 25, 2011

i like my straight talk smart phone nokia 6790 app-capable but i am haveing truble with it i wont to if yoe can exchange or refund my money i dont have good singel any where

dennisharris @ 9:30:35PM EST on Sunday February 27, 2011

Straight Talk is absolutely amazing. I was paying 100 bucks a month with my iphone and while i LOVED it.. I switched to the Samsung Finesse and it is almost the exact same thing! And I pay 45 dollars a month now for unlimited texting, minutes, and data. It just is a no -brainer to me and I wish I switched earlier. I have been saving soooo much money!! Plus the service is on the verizon network ( which we all know has the best coverage) so I never have to worry about my service going in and out.

melissa @ 5:41:10PM EDT on Monday May 2, 2011

My first straighttalk ph worked like a gem. I just upgraded and bought a slider LG wit picture taking capacity. The salesman had no interest in helping me,sent me off with the wrong microchip, and I do not get any reception as they changed carrier companies. I live an our from nearest walmart and straigttalk promised to get back to me by now stating tey would reprogram my phone to te new towers.
Never again. I will return this phone tomorrow ,start up my old phone and buy a digital camera from anyone but walmart

Johnson @ 1:26:21PM EDT on Monday May 30, 2011

I really love the service. I purchased the cheaper phone and I am waiting to catch a good sale so that I can upgrade. The $45.00 plan is the best way to go. You can talk all you want and never worry about a surprize bill.
