CTIA reiterates commitment to standardize micro-USB
News by Brian James Kirk on Tuesday October 13, 2009.
The CTIA wireless trade association has reiterated a commitment to supporting micro-USB as a universal charging standard and data transfer connector on handset devices, according to a press release.
The wireless industry association backed standardizing 3.5mm audio headphone jacks late last week, as we reported, and said that both standards should be implemented by January 2012.
In June, top handset manufacturers in Europe agreed to adopt the micro-USB port as the standard for charging devices, including Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Apple, Research In Motion and others, as we reported. [via EngadgetMobile]
