T-Mobile admits that lost Sidekick data may be permanent

News by Jake Humphrey on Sunday October 11, 2009.

In a post on T-Mobile's Sidekick forums yesterday, Danger, Microsoft, and T-Mobile issued a joint apology for a recent Sidekick data interruption. The trio also admitted that personal Sidekick data may be permanently lost.

Sidekick devices store some information on Microsoft/Danger servers online, including contacts, calendar entries, and even photos. When the servers went down, all of that personal data was lost.

T-Mobile will issue a status update on Monday, October 12th, but admitted that "the likelihood of a successful outcome is extremely low."

To prevent further data loss, T-Mobile recommends keeping your Sidekick powered on during any service outages, and suggests that owners avoid turning off or resetting their devices.

Advice for restoring your Sidekick contacts from your computer can be found on T-Mobile's forums.
