Barnes & Noble prepping e-book reader that could reportedly run Android

News by Brian James Kirk on Friday October 09, 2009.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Barnes & Noble is preparing an e-book reader that could launch as soon as November, sources familiar with the matter say. The reader could feature a 6-inch touchscreen display and would more than likely feature a wireless component that would let customers purchase content over-the-air, much like Amazon's Kindle.

Gizmodo reports that the reader device could utilize Google's Android operating system, according to a source who claims to develop mobile applications for the book retailer.

In July, Barnes & Noble launched a cross-platform e-book store for mobile devices and desktop PCs, as we reported, which likely will be used in conjunction with the device. [via AndroidCommunity]
