News by Brian James Kirk on Monday October 05, 2009.
Sprint launched its fourth generation mobile broadband WiMAX service in ten markets in the U.S. today, according to a press release. In Texas, Abilene, Killeen-Temple, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Waco, Wichita Falls, Amarillo and Midland-Odessa all began receiving 4G coverage. Milledgeville, Georgia and Salem, Oregon are also covered by the expansion.
For a $10 premium over current Sprint 3G mobile plans, users can see peak download speeds of more than 10Mbps and average speeds of 3 to 6Mbps.
A year ago Sprint launched its WiMAX service in Baltimore, as we reported. In August the carrier launched its 4G service in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Portland, Washington, and Idaho.
