Verizon Escapade by PCD offers world-roaming capability for a low price

Product Launch by Michael Oryl on Thursday August 20, 2009.

Today Verizon Wireless introduced the new Verizon Escapade, a dual-mode CDMA/GSM globally roaming flip phone built by Personal Communication Devices. The Escapade will function on both of Verizon's CDMA network bands and any of the four major GSM network bands used throughout the world, allowing consumers to talk in more than 220 foreign destinations.

The Escapade sports dual color displays. The larger internal TFT display measures 2 inches across the diagonal and is capable of rendering 262,000 colors, while the smaller external display is a 1.1-inch CSTN unit. Other features of the phone include a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth headset support, and the ability to run the Verizon VZ Navigator application for turn-by-turn directions while driving in the United States.

The Verizon Escapade will be available both online and in stores starting tomorrow, August 21. It will cost US$29.99 with a two-year agreement, after a $50 mail-in rebate that is paid in the form of a debit card.
