T-Mobile myTouch 3G available for pre-order now, in stores on August 5

Newsbrief by Michael Oryl on Wednesday July 08, 2009.

Today at an event in New York city, T-Mobile announced that its forthcoming Android-based myTouch 3G smartphone will be available for pre-order starting today. Those customers that order the device from today through July 28 will receive their phones before other customers. T-Mobile said that the device will be generally available through T-Mobile retail channels on August 5th.

The myTouch 3G features GSM/EDGE connectivity as well support for T-Mobile's 3G HSDPA network, as its name suggests. Built-in WiFi is also there for when 3G data isn't available. The myTouch 3G features a full HTML web browser, Google's voice powered search, as well as YouTube, Google Maps, and Picasa integration.

Users of the myTouch 3G will be able to swap out the rear cover of their devices for new customized shells, T-Mobile said. The company also announced a number of new accessories for the myTouch 3G, including a matching wall charger, a desktop charger, a car charger, a 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, and an snap-on battery extender. T-Mobile claims that the battery extender will provide the myTouch 3G with an additional 50 percent power, while the desktop charger includes its own 3.5mm audio port to make the myTouch 3G easier to use with desktop speakers. A number of different cases and protective covers were also unveiled for the phone, including a series of up-scale leather cases and a belt holster.

This Android-powered smartphone will be available in white, black, or a merlot red for US$199.99 with a new two-year agreement.
