Zero01 Mobile misses launch date, seeks service distributors

News by Brian James Kirk on Thursday July 02, 2009.

Zer01 Mobile is closer to launching but is not yet available to consumers despite plans to open its VoIP-based unlimited voice and data mobile service on July 1. The company is currently reaching out to MVNO providers who could distribute the service, EngadgetMobile reports.

Zer01 emerged in March, as we reported, with plans to launch its unlimited voice and data plan for $69.95 per month. The company signed into roaming agreements with GSM networks in the U.S. and bypasses carrier voice expenses by sending voice across data channels with VoIP technology, resulting in reduced prices of voice calls.

To use the service, individuals would have to install Zer01's VoIP application, currently only available for Windows Mobile. There are plans to support Android, BlackBerry, and Symbian devices as well.
