Skype closed beta announced for BlackBerry smartphones
News by Brian James Kirk on Wednesday May 20, 2009.
Skype has announced that its free mobile VoIP application is coming to BlackBerry smartphones. In a Skype forum post Monday, a spokesperson called for sign-ups for a closed beta of its BlackBerry application.
Skype has made its way to several smartphone platforms, including Windows Mobile and the iPhone. Carriers worry that the service could take away from their voice minute businesses and have protested the application. AT&T barred the service from its 3G network, so users are forced to use it only over WiFi networks.
Because of an "extensive amount" of interest in the beta program, no new applicants are being accepted. [via EngadgetMobile]
