Nokia debuts affordable 2730 classic candybar phone for emerging markets

Product Launch by Brian James Kirk on Monday May 18, 2009.

Nokia has announced the Nokia 2730 classic, a candybar phone with 3G data connectivity and tools for emerging phone markets, where people are first experiencing the Internet.

Though affordable, the 2730 classic is not shy on features. It includes a 2-inch QVGA display and a 2 megapixel camera. Users can listen to the radio over FM airwaves and connect hands-free Bluetooth headsets to the device. It features a large, 1,000-number phonebook, which is especially helpful for rural users where phone sharing is common.

With Nokia Life Tools and Ovi Mail onboard, Nokia hopes the 2730 can help offer the ability to connect to the Internet using a mobile phone. Nokia Life Tools allows users to find timely and relevant information about learning opportunities, while the 2730 classic's Ovi Mail allows users to create e-mail accounts without need for personal computer access.

With 17 days estimated standby time and 3.3 hours estimated WCDMA talk time, users won't have to worry about always having access to a charger.

The Nokia 2730 classic will ship for an estimated EUR 80 (US$108) in the third quarter of 2009.

Hi, I did a quick check with Nokia india office, who confirmed that the launch of this phone(Nokia 2730) is yet to happen in India. Would appreciate if you can advice the date by which it is launching in India and at what price point will it be available to end users. An early reply would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards
