It appears Vodafone will abolish roaming fees for voice, text and picture messaging during a three-month trial this summer. A placeholder site on the Vodafone website tells customers that the plan will start June 1 in more than 35 countries in Europe. Mobile Web surfers will be out of luck; the company still plans to charge for data roaming.
Roaming fees have been a hot issue in Europe. In late April, the European Union approved caps on voice, data and text message roaming fees. It took more than six months to fruit -- EU ministers have been trying to implement similar policies since December. [via Electricpig]
