Vodafone to abolish roaming fees during trial this summer
News by Brian James Kirk on Thursday May 14, 2009.
It appears Vodafone will abolish roaming fees for voice, text and picture messaging during a three-month trial this summer. A placeholder site on the Vodafone website tells customers that the plan will start June 1 in more than 35 countries in Europe. Mobile Web surfers will be out of luck; the company still plans to charge for data roaming.
Roaming fees have been a hot issue in Europe. In late April, the European Union approved caps on voice, data and text message roaming fees. It took more than six months to fruit -- EU ministers have been trying to implement similar policies since December. [via Electricpig]
