ViewSonic planning to enter 3G smartphone market

Newsbrief by Brian James Kirk on Tuesday May 12, 2009.

ViewSonic, a leading global provider of visual display products, has announced plans to expand into the smartphone market. The company says that moving into the mobile phone market is a natural progression as televisions, computers and phones continue to converge.

"Consumers are demanding larger screens, greater color saturation and contrast to take advantage of new services such as mobile Internet, television and video applications, gaming and eBooks," a press release stated.

China will be the first region that will carry the phones with Europe and the Americas to follow.
