Motorola announces r765 and r765IS rugged handsets
Product Launch by Brian James Kirk on Monday April 13, 2009.
Motorola r765
Motorola has announced the r765 and its intrinsically safe r765IS, two of its enterprise-grade iDEN handsets for utility, petrochemical and industrial markets. Rugged by design, these devices provide mobile workers stationed in noisy and hazardous environments with call clarity and access to data applications.
Featuring a two-way radio and a cellular radio, the r765 handsets allow users to switch back and forth between on-site and longer-distance communication. iDen services allow for group and private calls, interconnect, messaging, and data exchange. The devices will run Java-powered applications and provide Bluetooth compatibility for hands-free accessories.
The r765 will be available in the second quarter of 2009, while the intrinsically safe r765IS will be available in the third quarter.

We are in need of an intrinsically safe cell for to work in the Gulf of Mexico on Oil and Gas production platforms. Is this a phone or just a radio? Where and when can we can one if it is a cellular phone?
