Verizon launches online music store and OTA games and apps storefront
News by Brian James Kirk on Friday April 03, 2009.
Verizon Wireless has launched an online music store and an over-the-air games and applications storefront.
Unveiled yesterday, Verizon Media Store is an online music store with more than 5 million available MP3 downloads in addition to already available ringtones. Customers can purchase and download music to listen to on any MP3 compatible device, including side-loading Verizon handsets.
On Tuesday, the music prices will be tiered. New releases will cost $1.29, most music will cost $0.99, and classic catalog songs will cost $0.69. According to Verizon, the "vast majority" of its music catalog is without digital rights management (DRM) restrictions.
The company's Mobile Web Games and Apps Store allows customers to preview, sample, and purchase games and apps directly to their mobile WAP and HTML powered devices. The store is free as long as customers have a subscription to a data plan.
