Samsung bringing two Android devices to U.S. in second half of '09

News by Brian James Kirk on Friday April 03, 2009.

Samsung has shared details about its strategy in regards to Android OS-powered smartphones to Forbes.

The U.S. will have two Android devices to choose from in the second half of the year on two different carriers, Dr. Won-Pyo Hong, executive vice president of global product strategy in the company's mobile communications division, said. The carriers are likely to be Sprint and T-Mobile, since they are the only carriers signed on to Google's Open Handset Alliance.

The phones will look "totally different," Hong said. Meanwhile, it will release only one device in Europe for several carriers. The company plans to release its first Android device in June outside the U.S.

Hong noted that Samsung's Android market plan has been slow due to network carrier concern over Google's vision for the device. Hong also said that the company is dedicated "more to the Android [platform] than the 'Google Experience' device." [via AndroidAuthority]
