Samsung launches WiMAX powered Mondi SWD-M100 for Clear

News by Brian James Kirk on Tuesday March 31, 2009.

Samsung Telecommunications America has launched the Samsung Mondi SWD-M100, a WiMAX-enabled mobile device designed for use with the Clear WiMAX service. Similar to a netbook computer, this mobile device, which is able to fit into a user's pocket, features a slide-out full-QWERTY keyboard and optical mouse.

With a large, 4.3-inch touchscreen display, widgets can be dragged and dropped on the device's Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system standby screen. Users can search the web using the Mondi's integrated Opera 9.5 browser, and have will have access to social networking and messaging services like Fring, Gypsii, and MS Live Messenger.

In addition to WiMAX, the Samsung Mondi features WiFi data connectivity, Bluetooth support, and a GPS chipset for navigation on-the-go. Users can snap photos and video with the devices's 3 megapixel camera and store data files on 4GB of internal memory. They can later view their multimedia creations by plugging into HD televisions with the Mondi's HDMI TV-out port.

Clearwire offers its Clear WiMAX service in Portland, OR and Baltimore, MD, and it expects to bring its service to more than 80 markets by 2010. Pricing and availability of the Samsung Mondi have not been announced.
