Sprint to launch 4G WiMAX network in 10 cities in 2009
News by Brian James Kirk on Wednesday March 25, 2009.
Sprint has announced the next markets included in the company's 4G WiMAX network roll out, according to a press release. The service will launch in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Worth, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Portland, and Seattle in 2009. Already available in Baltimore since last September, the company claims that its WiMAX service reaches peak downloads of 12Mbps and average downlink speeds of 2-4Mbps.
The company also plans to launch several 4G devices in 2009 and 2010, including a data card, embedded laptops, a broadband modem, and a tri-mode phone. Sprint says it will launch its 4G data service in Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. in 2010.
