RIM updates BlackBerry Internet Service to v2.6

News by Brian James Kirk on Monday March 23, 2009.

RIM has announced an update to its BlackBerry Internet Service, bringing the third-party e-mail support service to version 2.6.

BlackBerry users now have the option to display password characters when configuring BIS, making it easier to enter third-party e-mail address passwords. The service has also improved support and error messages, allowing for third-party accounts to deliver unique PIN messages with instructions on how to best integrate with BlackBerry smartphones.

The new version of BIS has the ability to integrate with Gmail IMAP e-mail service, ensuring that sent messages do not appear as received messages, and including one-way synchronization of read status, sent items, and deleted items.

Users can also access a WAP login to change e-mail signatures when using the BlackBerry e-mail application.
