SXSW conference-goers put strain on AT&T 3G network
Newsbrief by Brian James Kirk on Monday March 16, 2009.
Attendees of the South by Southwest conference have been experiencing connectivity difficulties on AT&T's 3G network, and according to Silicon Valley Insider, the carrier is addressing the "unprecedented" demand in service in Austin, Texas.
"We are actively working this afternoon to add capacity to our cell sites serving downtown Austin. These efforts are ongoing, but we anticipate that customers should see improved network performance this evening and for the remainder of the event," a spokesperson for the company told the website on Sunday.
Some suspect that the network is being strained by an unusually high concentration of iPhone users that are attending the show for its "interactive" segment. [SiliconValleyInsider]
