Sony Ericsson enters Korean market with Xperia X1 smartphone

Newsbrief by Michael Oryl on Tuesday March 10, 2009.

It appears that Sony Ericsson is entering the South Korean mobile phone market by offering the Xperia X1 smartphone through its new partner, SK Telecom. Home to mobile powerhouses Samsung and LG, the South Korean market has traditionally been a very difficult one to crack. Motorola has had some limited success there, but Nokia, the world's largest cell phone maker, has failed to penetrate the market on multiple occasions.

Sony Ericsson has said that this expansion into the Korean peninsula is part of an effort to expand the company's presence in Asia in general.

The company has said that it is offering Korean X1 users some customized home screen panels that integrate popular South Korean services. The phone will also include the full version of the Spider-Man 3. More information is available from mocoNews.
