Palm Treo Pro and possible other Windows Mobile 6.1 phones to get IE Mobile 6

Newsbrief by Michael Oryl on Wednesday March 04, 2009.

As part of the announcement Sprint made today about the March 15 availability of the Palm Treo Pro, it came out that this Windows Mobile 6.1 device would ship with the IE Mobile 6 browser installed. IE Mobile 6, a browser often referred to as "6 on 6" because it is based on the desktop Internet Explorer 6 engine, has become part of the latest AKU(INFO) 1.4 release of Windows Mobile 6.1, and will be available on some new Windows Mobile 6.1 devices that meet the minimum requirements of having at least 128MB of RAM and a 400MHz processor.

Previously we had been told to not expect to see IE Mobile 6 until Windows Mobile 6.5 devices started shipping much later this year.

I'm confused. Is Treo Pro's WebOS based off Window's Mobile Operating System? Why would it sport an IE browser? Can't they put on Firefox instead? Great, just what I am looking for. Hackers who want to hack into my phone via IE. Thanks Sprint. Talk about another mistep.

You are, indeed, confused. The Treo Pro does not run webOS. That is the Pre you are thinking of. The Pre is not a Treo, and doesn't run either of the OSes that the Treos run.
