Amazon launches free Kindle app for iPhone and iPod touch

News by Brian James Kirk on Wednesday March 04, 2009.

Amazon has launched Kindle for iPhone and iPod touch, a free application available from Apple's App Store. The app allows users access to 240,000 books, and using Amazon's Whispersync technology, users can sync page bookmarks between the Kindle, Kindle 2, iPhone, and iPod touch so they won't lose track of which page they were last reading.

Books must be purchased from a desktop PC or Mac and transferred to their iPhone or iPod touch, or they can be purchased by browsing the online book store from Safari on Apple mobile devices. Purchases cannot be made with the Kindle app itself.

Kindle app users have access to their entire library of previously purchased Kindle books. They can adjust the text size for better viewing, they are able to add bookmarks, and they can view notes and highlights.
