Motorola announced their latest 3G handset, the A1000, at the recent 3GSM conference. The A1000 delivers video conferencing capabilities, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and PDF document viewing capabilities via the Picsel Document Viewer, and full HTML browsing with Opera. It also boasts an impressive array of multimedia functions, including an integrated 1.2 mega pixel camera (with 4x zoom), video and audio streaming, capture and playback with MPEG4 and MP3 files, and dual-audio speakers.

Motorola is marketing the A1000 to business users with features like Virtual Private Network (VPN) support, Bluetooth, tri-band GSM support, and advanced PIM applications. Users will be able to access their POP and IMAP4 accounts. Synchronization via SyncML or straight to desktop is also available.

Being a UIQ device, like the previous A920 and A925 models, the A1000 will be able to run most applications available for other compatible UIQ devices.

Motorola has introduced the new Triflash-R memory format (similar to other formats, but smaller) for the A1000, which will allow you to expand on the 24MB memory built in to the phone.

The expected release date for the A1000 is Q4 2004. No word on pricing yet, but the A1000 is likely to be subsidised your local 3G provider.
