LG shows off solar-powered cell phone

News by Ricky Cadden on Monday February 16, 2009.

LG is showing its environmental side this week at the 2009 Mobile World Congress, starting with a new cell phone that features a solar panel built into the back cover. The unnamed cell phone is able to recharge itself through the solar panel with natural light. A short ten minutes of direct sunlight, for example, is able to generate enough charge for a 3 minute phone call.

LG is demonstrating this new solar panel that fits into the back cover of the cell phone, which means that it could potentially be easily applied to any LG phone, even models that are already on the market. The company has also redesigned its packaging to be more ecologically friendly, using recycled paper products for the box and printed materials.
