AT&T Mobility employee contract expires as strike authorization looms
News by Brian James Kirk on Monday February 09, 2009.
Communications Workers of America, a union representing 20,000 AT&T Mobility employees, stated that the contract covering those employees has expired and a request to extend the contract by 30 days has been refused.
The union has been negotiating with AT&T Mobility for more than a month, and the two groups have yet to come to agreement. CWA has requested that employees report to work, and that the terms of the contract remain the same, with the exception of arbitration and grievances.
As of Feb. 8, CWA said that union and company bargainers had not reached agreement on several important issues, citing that AT&T Mobility has shown no willingness to come to the bargaining table. On Friday, CWA voted to authorize a strike if a contract agreement couldn't be reached. The organization's executive board must ratify the action, and the president must set a strike date before striking begins.

these workers need to be thankful they have jobs with so many people getting layed off and businesses closing. Be thankful for what you have cause it could be gone tomorrow.

The workers are glad they have job. The labor agreement expired. Therefore a new contract is reviewed. Typical of any Union

We are glad we have a excellent job. We don't like our paycheck getting less and less every year. In the last four years under the ruling thumb of at&t we have seen our take home pay decrease do to the unfair fees that at&t has imposed upon us. On average at&t wants to decrease our pay by $4000 per year and they increased our out of pocket Health care by $4000 that means we take home $8000 a year less. Are the workers greedy is is this just another example of corporate Greed

I am a service technician and our contract will be up pretty soon this year as well. Just because the economy is bad doesnt mean the workers should bend over backwards and take it however ATT or any other company wants to give it. Everyone is thankful they have a job now a days but keep in mind that just as we are thankful for our jobs, our jobs would be nothing without us. We make the corporation run, without us there would be no ATT for example. In other words, some concessions will have to be made, but it has to be a fair agreement. You cant just say ok we'll take whatever you give us just because things are bad and at least we have a job, No thats not the way to see it. We are here we need a job, and you need us, lets come to an agreement. If it was up to them we would be working for free.

I would like it to be known that by 2011 workers in the states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri and Louisiana will make 10 cents more per hour than those in California. Now, I know that our people in those states work hard, but when the cost of living between Sacramento and San Antonio is about $8000 for that year, well yes, I find it to be a bit of a slap in the face. We in California are a part of the two most profitable markets in this company (PAC and NCA) and it is time the company realizes that. There is no excuse that someone who works at a store for ten years and is great at taking care of their customers makes $14.41 per hour now and in 2011 after 14 years of service will only make $15.81 (this is a true story and I am not this person). What we need is a 120 month pay schedule, not a 24 month one like we currently have. REWARD LOYALITY, HARD WORK AND DEDICATION! That is my AMERICAN DREAM.

crazy contractor @ 5:45:34PM EST on Tuesday February 24, 2009
Its too late, I got a call today to work for over $35hr as a contractor for AT&T.They are giving us the vans and bucket trucks and even paying for gas.AT&T is doing this behind their own employees backs its a shame what the world is turning to today!!!!
U-VERSE TECH @ 2:47:20PM EDT on Sunday April 5, 2009
Its a shame that AT&t would let this come to a strike, and hire contractors to do all our work for over 30 bucks an hour and only wanna pay us 16.00 at top pay, we have I&R techs that are making 32.00 and hour and they dont do nearly as much work as us, we have to do all the dirty and nasty work while these guys do all the easy work, so if u contractors wanna come do our jobs if a strike comes then i welcome u to, AT&t profit over 18 billion dollars in 2008, and they want us to work for crumbs, new contract is up and its time for us to take a stand and get paid for all the hard work we do for ths company, UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL, UNION STRONG ALL DAY LONG, CWA GET IT DONE
