Adobe collaborating with Apple to develop Flash on iPhone
News by Brian James Kirk on Monday February 02, 2009.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen said that Adobe and Apple are collaborating to develop Adobe's Flash video software for Apple's iPhone.
Adobe has worked on the software since June 2008, three months after Apple allowed for the development of native third-party applications. Shantanu is "pleased with progress," but mentioned that development was challenging, given Apple's complicated two-way process that requires approval before an app can hit the public App Store.
Flash is already available on 800 million mobile handsets, but isn't available on the Apple iPhone. Apple has taken the position in the past that the full version of Flash is too memory intensive, and that Flash Lite isn't feature intensive enough to make it a viable option for the web.
