Apple posts record quarterly revenue figures

Today Apple posted the results for it fiscal first quarter 2009, which ended on December 27 of 2008. The company posted a record quarterly revenue figure of US$10.17 billion, up almost 6 percent from the $9.6 billion figure it posted a year earlier. Profits were up from $1.58 billion a year ago to $1.61 billion, which resulted in a diluted earnings per share figure of $1.76.

Apple reported that it sold almost 4.4 million iPhones in the past quarter. That's 88% higher than the figure from Apple's Q1 2008 report, and reflects the continuing global popularity of the company's iPhone 3G smartphone.
