Rumors surrounding Motorola's commitment to Windows Mobile and CTIA are dispelled

Newsbrief by Brian James Kirk on Wednesday January 14, 2009.

Sources are repudiating earlier rumors that indicated bad news for Motorola's handset division. Engadget Mobile is reporting that a spokesperson for the CTIA Wireless show said that Motorola will have two locations on the showroom floor. The confirmation proves wrong a rumor that Motorola would not be making an appearance at the show.

Also dispelled is a rumor that Motorola would stop manufacturing Windows Mobile-based smartphones in favor of Google's Android operating system. In an interview with Computerworld.com, Brian Viscount, Motorola's Vice President of Marketing for Mobile Enterprise Computing said that the handset division, "remains 100 percent committed to Windows Mobile." No comment has been made denying the possibility of layoffs in the company's handset division.
