Microsoft CEO says 20 million Windows Mobile phones were sold in 2008

Newsbrief by Brian James Kirk on Thursday January 08, 2009.

In a presentation yesterday at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer Steve Balmer said that 20 million Windows Mobile-enabled phones were sold in 2008.

Having delivered 11 different mobile phones that have each sold one million units, and having brought over 30 Windows Mobile phones to market, Balmer compared the company's success with Apple. Apple has sold more than 10 million iPhones. During the presentation, Balmer also touched on the search and advertising deal reached with Verizon that was officially announced today.
