LG to add dual-microphone noise reduction system to its cell phones

News by Michael Oryl on Wednesday January 07, 2009.

Today at its press conference at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, LG announced that it will be integrating a new noise reduction system into its future handsets.

The DSE technology, as it is called, works by making use of two separate microphones in each mobile phone. One microphone is dedicated to picking up all of the background noise in the area, while the other focuses solely on the voice of the person using the phone. The DSE algorithms can then use the input from the noise microphone to subtract that sound from what the primary voice microphone picks up.

LG expects to unveil cell phones using the new DSE technology in the second half of 2009.
