Broadcom fits single chip with WiFi, Bluetooth, and FM radio
News by Ricky Cadden on Tuesday December 09, 2008.
Broadcom has revealed its latest all-in-one chip, the BCM4329. This new chip features 802.11n WiFi, as well as Bluetooth and an FM radio on a single chip, greatly reducing the amount of space required to include these features in a cell phone.
The BCM4329 is one of the first chips to offer 802.11n WiFi for mobile devices, providing up to 50Mbps of wireless throughput while using less power than today's 802.11b/g chips. The FM radio portion is also able to transmit, as well as receive, allowing consumers to broadcast music from their cell phones to a car radio without any wires. Broadcom expects this new chip to be widely available in 2009.
