LG successfully tests world's first LTE cell phone chip

News by Ricky Cadden on Tuesday December 09, 2008.

LG moved one step ahead of the crowd recently as it successfully tested the world's first LTE chip for cell phones. The chip was able to demonstrate data speeds of 60Mbps downlink, 20Mbps uplink, both of which are significantly faster than today's current wireless networks.

The chip, which measures 13mm x 13mm, is theoretically capable of even faster data speeds, which holds promise for the future of LTE networks. It is expected that the first LTE-equipped cell phones will hit the market in 2010, as carriers are still working on test networks and handsets.
