Sprint dumping Xohm name, going dual-mode with Sprint 4G

News by Ricky Cadden on Monday December 08, 2008.

Sprint has recently revealed that it intends to drop the XOHM brand under which it currently offers WiMAX service in Baltimore, Maryland. The new name will be simply Sprint 4G, setup as an MVNO on Clearwire's Clear WiMAXnetwork, of which Sprint owns 51%.

Sprint 4G service will be offered with a dual-mode CDMA/mobile WiMax modem, built by Motorola, to be offered later this year. Other cell phones and modems will be launched next year, as well.

Clearwire will offer its service under the Clear brand, and will share the same network as Sprint 4G. It is also expected that Clearwire will setup an MVNO to sell voice services on Sprint's CDMA network in the future. [via RCR Wireless]
