Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, but uses the Xperia panels user interface to provide a more user-friendly experience. 3rd party companies can create their own 'panels', which add extra features to the X1, right from the standby screen. Facebook has done just that.
The Facebook panel will add a new way of interacting with the social networking site, including updates right on the standby screen, as well as giving users direct access to the mobile-friendly version of Facebook.
Not to be outdone, Microsoft has also released information about its Windows Live panel, which will integrate users' Windows Live buddy lists with their phone book, offering enhanced syncing abilities. [via Mobile Entertainment]
