Nokia to launch MVNO carrier service in Japan

News by Michael Oryl on Saturday November 22, 2008.

Reuters is reporting that the Japanese daily newspaper known as Yomiuri Shimbun has said that Nokia has plans to launch an MVNO(INFO) cell phone service in Japan next spring. According to the paper, NTT DoCoMo is most likely going to be the carrier partner that Nokia chooses to work with.

The paper also says that Nokia will initially offer only high-end cell phones on its network in an attempt to build a strong brand. Nokia currently controls 1% of the Japanese cell phone market in spite of the fact that it controls nearly 40% of the world market.
