Apple release iPhone and iPod Touch firmware v2.2

Newsbrief by Ricky Cadden on Friday November 21, 2008.

Today Apple launched the iPhone firmware v2.2, for both the iPhone and iPhone 3G as well as the iPod Touch. The new firmware includes a new podcast feature in the on-device iTunes Store, allowing users to download podcasts over WiFi or cellular networks.

The Google Maps application has also been updated to include Street View, as well as public transit and walking direction options. However, it has been confirmed that these Google Maps updates are only present on the iPhone and iPhone 3G, leaving the iPod Touch without either of the new features.

Other new features in firmware v2.2 include updates to the mail application, as well as stability enhancements for the Safari web browser. [via AppleInsider]
