Sony reveals new 5, 8, and 12 megapixel cameraphone modules

Sony just revealed its new Exmor line of cameraphone modules, available in 5 megapixel, 8 megapixel, and 12 megapixel resolutions. The modules consist of the sensor, lens, and autofocus mechanism, offering a mostly all-in-one package.

The 8 megapixel module should be available to manufacturers this month, while the 5 megapixel and 12 megapixel modules won't be ready until March 2009. The modules use a new 'piezo' lens motor, which should minimize power consumption, specifically when shooting video. [via PhoneScoop]
