Sprint plans to rejuvenate iDEN network

News by Ricky Cadden on Friday October 31, 2008.

After previously declaring that it was entertaining options to sell the iDEN network that once was Nextel, Sprint has now announced that the iDEN network is a key asset, and that the company will renew its focus on maintaining it. Sprint will continue to add new towers to extend the coverage of its iDEN network.

As part of this renewed focus, Sprint has extended its strategic relationship with Motorola to launch more iDEN cell phones, including the Motorola i576. The carrier plans to launch 8 new iDEN cell phones throughout 2009, including some with high-end features such as Bluetooth and built-in GPS.

Sprint will also be retooling its Boost Mobile rate plans as part of the rejuvenation of the industry-leading PTT (Push-To-Talk) network. While continuing to offer Boost Mobile phones and devices as pre-paid, without contracts, the company announced that it will soon unveil an unlimited Boost Mobile plan with a nationwide coverage area.
