Supposed iPhone v2.2 firmware shows OTA podcast downloading

Newsbrief by Ricky Cadden on Wednesday October 29, 2008.

An alleged feature list for the next iPhone 3G firmware, v2.2, has emerged, showing off the new ability for the iPhone to download new podcast episodes over the air, without needing to synchronize with iTunes.

The new feature would offer a bit of explanation as to why Apple pulled Podcaster from its App Store recently. The Podcaster application was developed by a third party and offered users the ability to download new episodes over WiFi or cellular networks.

Other features rumored to be coming in the next iPhone 3G firmware include improvements to Google Maps, text auto-correction, and the ability to rate App Store listings. Still notably missing is cut-and-paste functionality. [via Apple Insider]
