Google Gmail for mobile 2.0 out for Java and BlackBerry

Newsbrief by Michael Oryl on Thursday October 23, 2008.

Today Google announced the availability of Gmail for mobile 2.0 for the Java J2ME and BlackBerry platforms. The new Gmail client has a number of new features that will make it easier to worh with on a day to day basis.

For starters, the application is faster than it used to be. Gmail for mobile 2.0 also supports multiple Gmail accounts at once, and lets users save multiple email drafts as well. Even more useful will be the new QWERTY keyboard shortcuts that are available, and the app's ability to compose and read email even while offline, sending newly composed messages as soon as it detects a signal.

The new application can be downloaded from the m.google.com/mail website. No word yet on when we might see the new 2.0 application for other smartphone platforms.
