Apple posts strong results, touts 6.9M iPhone 3G sold
News by Michael Oryl on Tuesday October 21, 2008.
Today Apple announced its fiscal fourth quarter results. The company as a whole earned US$1.14 billion on total revenues of $7.9 billion, which compares favorably with profits of $1.01 billion from the same quarter in the prior year. Part of that success is due to the iPhone 3G. Apple reported that it has sold just shy of 6.9 million iPhone 3G handsets worldwide in the product's first quarter, which is more than the 6.1 million total sales of the original iPhone over its entire 1.25 year lifespan.
That equates to 13 million iPhones sold in the year and a half since the original iPhone first hit the market.
While Apple is quite pleased with its recent results, the company has said that the current financial situation in the world is some cause for concern. In spite of that, Apple CEO Steve Jobs says that he believes his company has its strongest product line ever.
