Sony Ericsson posts another loss for Q3 2008
News by Michael Oryl on Friday October 17, 2008.
While its performance was nothing to brag about, it appears that Sony Ericsson has slowed the bleeding a bit when it comes to its earnings. As part of the company's Q3 financial results that it released today, we learned that Sony Ericsson put in a performance that would have been a hair above break even if not for some restructuring charges that are on the books for this quarter. While the loss is slightly less than had been expected, at EUR33 million, it is still larger than the loss in the previous quarter.
The company said that it sold 25.7 million cell phones in the Q3 2008 reporting period, which is up from 24.4 million in Q2 of this year, though still down slightly from the 25.9 million figure posted in Q3 of 2007. Sales remained mostly flat from last quarter, coming in at EUR2808 million (EUR300 million less than Q3 2007).
Sony Ericsson says that it has maintained its 8% global market share position, which by most accounts places it in 5th position among the major manufacturers.
