Visa bringing mobile banking application to Android

Newsbrief by Ricky Cadden on Friday September 26, 2008.

Visa is working on a mobile banking application for Google Android based smartphones, including the new the T-Mobile G1. The application will offer consumers the opportunity to receive financial alerts and special offers directly on their cell phones. Visa also plans to support contactless payments on future Android smartphones that have the required hardware installed. The T-Mobile G1 does not include the needed NFC(INFO) hardware to support contactless payments.

The new application from Visa will also integrate with Google Maps to quickly locate nearby ATMs or other banking locations. Initially, the application will only be available to consumers using a JPMorgan Chase-issued credit card, though more banks are hoped to be brought on later. [via: Reuters]
