Apple releases v2.1 iPhone and iPhone 3G firmware

Version 2.1 of the firmware(INFO) for Apple's iPhone and iPhone 3G smartphones is now available through iTunes. This new firmware offers a handful of bug fixes as well as some stability improvements. Apple also claims that the new firmware will increase the iPhone's battery life for most users, in addition to more accurately displaying 3G signal strength.

Apple also states that the new v2.1 firmware will reduce backup times and speed up the contacts application. Genius playlists are also now available on iPhones running this new firmware revision.

Users can connect their iPhone to their computer while iTunes is running to download and install the new firmware update.
