AIM, ICQ, AOL Mail now available for RIM BlackBerry

Newsbrief by Michael Oryl on Wednesday September 10, 2008.

Earlier today Research In Motion and AOL announced the availability of clients for AOL's AIM and ICQ instant messaging systems for the RIM's BlackBerry smartphones. The two companies also announced that AOL Mail would also be available on BlackBerry phones.

The new IM applications offer tight integration with the BlackBerry OS, which allows users to initiate an IM session from the phone's address book, or initiate a call or message to a contact from within the instant messaging client.

The new support for AOL Mail makes use of AOL's message notification system to provide a push-like email experience for AOL members. The new AOL Mail client will even synchronize message status information (whether it has been read, forwarded, or replied to) as well as synchronize message deletions. Users of devices running the new BlackBerry OS 4.5 will even be able to view HTML email messages as intended.

The new BlackBerry IM clients are available from the BlackBerry website. Additional information on the AOL Mail support can be found here. [via SlashPhone]
