E-TEN Shows Dual-SIM Glofiish DX900 Smartphone at Computex 2008
Product Launch by Michael Oryl on Tuesday June 03, 2008.
E-TEN Glofiish DX900
Today E-TEN announced that its new Glofiish DX900 dual-SIM smartphone has won the "Best Choice" award at the 2008 Computex show in Taiwan. The new DX900 is what E-TEN claims to be the first dual-SIM Windows Mobile handset to support both HSDPA 3G data as well as EDGE. The DX900 supports dual-standby, meaning that both SIM cards in the phone are active at the same time and that calls can be received on either of them at any given moment, without the need for the user to switch active SIMs. This makes it perfect for users with both personal and work SIM cards, and the phone even supports using one SIM for data while the other is used for voice traffic.
In addition to all of the dual-SIM features, the DX900 also has a decent array of other properties that make it look to be a winner. VGA displays seem to be the rage this year for Windows Mobile devices, and the DX900 has that covered with a nice 2.8" touchscreen unit. This Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 smartphone also has a built-in GPS module, support for WiFi networks, and a 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus.
Lastly, the DX900 makes use of E-TEN's new finger touch UI extensions that we first saw under NDA at the 2008 Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. The HTC TouchFLO-like system provides users with 3D effects and large buttons to make it easier to control the device without having to use the stylus.
Update: E-TEN has told us that the DX900 supports 850/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity. It sports a 533MHz Samsung processor, and has 256MB of internal flash and 128MB of application RAM. It has a low-res VGA camera for video calls, and a 3 megapixel autofocus camera out back. The DX900 also sports a microSD card slot for storage expansion, Bluetooth and WiFi, and a built-in FM radio. The device weighs 147g (5.2oz) with its 1530mAh battery in place, and measures up at 106mm x 60.5mm x 17mm (4.2" x 2.4" x .7").
The DX900 can be seen now through June 7th at the Computex show. E-TEN expects the DX900 to go on sale in October of this year.
