Swiscomm Launches DVB-H TV Service, O2 and BBC Interested in MediaFLO

News by Ricky Cadden on Monday June 02, 2008.

Mobile TV is quickly becoming more and more mainstream, and the European market is still growing quickly. Swisscom has just launched its Bluewin TV network, using the DVB-H standard pioneered by Nokia. The service is currently only supported on the Nokia N77, though more handsets are expected soon. For 16 Swiss francs (US$15) per month, users will have unlimited access to 20 mobile channels.

Meanwhile, in England, O2 and the BBC are reportedly interested in Qualcomm's MediaFLO technology, which is currently in use by Verizon Wireless and AT&T here in the United States. Last month, Qualcomm committed US$16.3 million for spectrum in the UK, saying it would move forward with its own mobile TV technology once it found a partner.
