T-Mobile Officially Begins Nationwide 3G Rollout in New York City

News by Ricky Cadden on Monday May 05, 2008.

T-Mobile has officially begun rolling out its nationwide 3G service today, starting with New York City. The network supports both voice and data on the AWS bands (1700/2100MHz) and is supported by a few handsets currently being offered, such as the Nokia 6263 and 3555 clamshells, with more coming soon.

T-Mobile will be adding major metropolitan areas to the 3G coverage throughout the year, and expects to have the majority of its data-hungry subscribers covered by the end of the year. T-Mobile also operates one of the largest network of WiFi HotSpots in the U.S., and offers plans allowing consumers to access both its WiFi and cellular data networks, seamlessly transferring between the two.
